It’s hard to start
I’m generally one of the laziest people I know. I get into fits of output, usually deleting everything I’ve written. Another project of mine, which had been in some stage of written-ness for a few years, kind of fizzled out (at no fault of anyone involved). Chalking it up to a learning experience, we move on to bigger things. However, this saddened me as I really wanted something for Fallcon, as it was the 20th anniversary and bigger than years past. A good coming out party, perhaps. But here I was with nothing to sell.
I had been writing a 40 to 50 pages story called IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING, INNIT? but it’s nowhere near completion. I wondered if in two and a half months I could make something happen. In a few days I wrote a short introduction to some fun characters you meet in It’s Always…. I got in contact with the artist for the longer story and he said he could draw it.
But, do I give it away? I could print a thousand copies and give them to everyone who will take it. But I know that I wouldn’t take a hastily assembled ashcan comic too seriously if I received it. No, I have to sell it to give it some sort of credibility. But who will buy an eleven page comic, printed on folded paper? NO ONE. So whats the hook. Suddenly, it was clear.
3D, SON.
I realized that, while not reaching the heights that you’ve come to expect from well put together books, I could take an image, photoshop it and make it into a 3D image. Some tests proved me right.

I worked on some Dell Dracula panels and a star wars coloring book page. Above is a small sample of one of the tests. As a result, not only will the people be getting a funny short story, but also some 3D pin-ups by some formidable artists, but a fun page centerfold, complete with 3D glasses slid into the book.
This thing is shaping up.
